Ben Rotherhay from The Value Engine

Yesterday, G12 Networking welcomed Ben from The Value Engine to present at their business breakfast event hosted by Alistair Gleave. Ben had the challenge of delivering an informative, actionable, and entertaining talk to energise the attendees while they enjoyed their morning coffee and breakfast.

As an entrepreneur, Ben knows no one wants to sit through a dry, theoretical business lecture first thing in the morning. Instead, he aimed to provide a simple, actionable roadmap for increasing profits and sustainable business growth without the endless grind of all-nighters.

With just 15 minutes for his presentation, Ben made it engaging and memorable by breaking it down into five key steps:

  1. Start with the end goal in mind
  2. Get niched – trying to be everything for everyone leads to nothing
  3. Start with the customer and work backwards
  4. Build the smart machine
  5. Schedule weekly time to plan for the future

Ben hustled through all 5 of those game-changing concepts in his short 15-minute window! He even managed to sneak in a few bites of the breakfast spread.

The engaged audience loved Ben’s energetic and straight-talking style as he shared proven strategies for sustainable business growth. Thanks to Alistair for hosting and inviting such a great speaker. And thanks to Tony Cobley for capturing some brilliant photos from the event.

It was an awesome morning exchanging entrepreneurial ideas over coffee and croissants with Ben and the other motivated G12 Networking attendees.

Alternative options to the standard keyboard and mouse

Last week I had the opportunity to present to G12 and we discussed some alternative options over the standard keyboard and mouse which are given away for free with most computers. The free ones work, but given the amount of time most of us spend typing and mousing, it’s well worth investing a little time and money in something better.

Think of it like your wife has a Vauxhall Corsa on the drive you can use for free. Perfectly fine. But your work takes you all over the place, so you’d be wanting something larger, more comfortable and refined to enable you to do the best work. I won’t  list options here, the best way to know what is the best solution for you is to drive it, and we have products available for you to do just that.
Now you’ve spoken to an expert in their field (the bloke who sold you that laptop is not an expert in ergonomics) and you have the correct equipment, we need to think about how to place it. You could have the best chair, height adjustable desk and accessories, but if they’re not set up correctly, you’ll likely still feel some discomfort. Here again, the expert in his field is invaluable.

At Backworld, I like to personally deliver every chair I sell, talk the user through the controls, and help them set it up so that they get the best from it. I don’t charge for this, it’s all part of the service. So while the headline price of that ergonomic wonder on Amazon might make it look like a bargain, chances are, it really isn’t.
Take a look at the lady in the picture. Notice how every part of her is supported. The armrests are under her elbow, wrists resting on the table, not craning her neck to see the monitor.
If you’re using your desk for half an hour to send family updates to your auntie in Melbourne, you probably don’t need to worry too much about this. But if you are going to sit all day and work, make sure it’s right. You wouldn’t drive a car without adjusting the set up, think the same way of your workstation.

Queue for the Queen

Our 10-minute talk this week was given by Alistair from Gleave Media about his very recent London trip when he queued for The Queen following the death of our Monarch.  We haven’t copied this word for word but a very brief synopsis is below.

We started at 2am in Southwark Park in a never-ending snake of up and down, the route following through Bermondsey, Shad Thames to Tower Bridge then essentially down the Queen Walk (by the side of the Thames) all the way to Lambeth Bridge where we crossed over the river and joined Victoria Tower Gardens.

And you can see a short video of the snake in Victoria Tower Gardens that seemed to go on forever.

It’s definitely worth mentioning all the stewards and police who were on the route at various stages were wonderful, lots of good mornings and encouragement to keep going for what is essentially 30 seconds paying your respects at the coffin of our Monarch, and after 12hrs and 15 minutes we were there in what was a very emotional and incredibly worthwhile journey.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you at a future event.
